FAQ: Windows Vista
Frequently Asked Questions:
- I get an error every time I
start the program.
- When running under Vista, I experience an incompatibility not listed here.
1. I get an error every time I start the program.
This is probably occurring because Vista is more strict about letting
programs run by non-administrator accounts make changes to the registry.
The error may suggest that you fix the problem by using REGEDIT
but that can be ignored.
You can eliminate the error either by running the software from an
administrator account, or by simply disabling User Account Control (UAC):
Disabling UAC in Vista
2. When running under Vista, I experience an incompatibility not listed here.
Vista is a new operating system and there will inevitably be new
incompatibilities discovered with our products. Please report anything
you find so that we can address it. Don't assume we already know about it
unless it is listed above.
Fortunately Microsoft had the foresight to anticipate incompatibilities
with programs that ran without any issues on previous versions of Windows.
After you report a compatibility issue, you might try running the software
in compatibility mode to see if the
problem can be eliminated until the incompatibility is resolved.
To run the product in compatibility mode, right click on the link of the
program. Click on Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Click
on "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select Windows XP SP 2.
The next time you start the product, it will run in compatibility mode
with Windows XP service pack 2, hopefully resolving the compatibility issue.
